Kirsten Smith


Kirsten leads Gong’s Africa business development with significant time in on the ground in Nairobi. Recent credits include leading the rebrand of Shelter Afrique and helping to build the international profile of Kenyan entrepreneur, Njeri Rionge. Kirsten joined Gong in 2007 from NGO, Rainforest Concern, where she managed international multi-stakeholder communications. Kirsten grew up in West and East Africa and has an Economics degree from Kent University.


Janet has 7 years’ experience in strategic communication and marketing having begun her career at Apex Porter Novelli (APN) where she served Kenyan and international clients across the technology, agriculture, tourism, energy, health and FMCG sectors.  She has also provided PR support and strategic advice to the European Union, Philips East Africa, Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), Google Kenya, Ministry of East African Affairs Community & Tourism- Kenya (MEAACT), Kenya Commercial Bank Foundation, TECNO Smart, Unilever (Blue band) and the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF).

Janet holds a Bachelors Degree in Communications from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and is currently pursuing her MBA in Strategic Management at the University of Nairobi.
